A Letter To The Lonely On Valentine’s Day

by

snow-heartDear Lonely Heart,

I know this is the loneliest day of the year for you.

Your co-workers’ desks are littered with chocolate wrappers and every time a flower delivery comes through the door, your heart hurts just a little because you know that bouquet isn’t for you.

You know that you will spend the evening eating take-out with your only company being the latest sitcom and your lazy cat.

You dread going to work on Monday knowing that you will be regaled with tales of how the lovebirds in the office spent their romantic evenings.

While the rest of the world celebrates the loves of their lives, you feel so utterly alone. Continue reading →

Do We Really Believe It?

by

ladderI know we all believe the things we read in God’s word, but do we really?

I was challenged in this area just last week. My husband was helping me shoot a picture for the cover of my ebook. If you missed that post, you can read it and see the picture by clicking here.

He, being on the roof many times, thought it would be really cool if we got a shot of me (having never been on the roof) up there with my arms lifted to the sky.

I thought it was a great idea! That is, until I got about halfway up the ladder. I told him I didn’t think I could do it, but he encouraged me to just keep climbing. I did, but instead of climbing up, I climbed back down, stepped onto solid ground, and told him that I just couldn’t do it. Continue reading →

When Our Thoughts and His Words Collide

by

lamp-Bible

It recently occurred to me that there is a disconnect between the things I think and worry about and what Jesus has said in His Word. I worry about the dwindling savings, about retirement, about the future of my boys, and a host of other concerns. These are all things the world tells me I need to be concerned about. But what did Jesus say? Continue reading →

You Are The Reason

by

Breakfast-With-Jesus

The week before last, I wrote several posts about the idea that while preparing to teach Vacation Bible School to young children, I was reminded that God intends for the adults to be gleaning truths from His word as we are sharing them. Just because we are teaching doesn’t mean we aren’t learning.

Well, I’m back at it again this week.

Last Friday night, our church hosted a Youth Night complete with a spaghetti dinner and board games for all who wished to come fellowship. I gave a short devotion because I never want to miss an opportunity to share the gospel.

Like the previous week, I was reminded that I am never too old, never too familiar, never too well read that His truths do not continue to wash over me and bring me great comfort.

Let me share what I mean. Continue reading →

What If It’s Not A Happy Father’s Day?

by

A Father's Love

I feel incredibly blessed on Father’s Day more than most.

Not only is the father of my children my very best friend, but he is a wonderful, loving, and dedicated father to our two children.

Another one of my very best friends is my own father. I appreciate his presence in my life more than words can express.

I have also been blessed with a kind, generous, and loving father-in-law.

And if that weren’t enough, I have a Father in Heaven who loves me more than I can possibly imagine. We all do.

On this day, I have so much to be thankful for and to celebrate, but I can’t help but think about those who do not feel the same way.

You see, for some, this day conjures up feelings of anger, pain, hurt, resentment, loss, frustration, and a host of other feelings.

While we spend the day celebrating the wonderful fathers in our lives, others wish this day simply didn’t exist. Continue reading →

Love

by

heart

Should you ever doubt your value or your worth, consider that Love Himself died for YOU.

Perfect died for the imperfect

Love gave His life for the greedy

Whole died for the broken

Truth died for liars

Friend died for His enemies

Selfless died for the selfish

Love gave His life for the haters

Sinless died for the sinner

The world may tell you that you are unworthy, but Jesus Christ said something very different when He hung on that cross and died so that, in Him, you could live.
