The Gift

by

fancy-heart
Have you ever been given a gift that has profoundly changed your life?

A gift so generous, appreciated, and unexpected that nothing will ever be the same as a result?

A gift that makes you wonder what you could have possibly done to deserve it?

A gift that you wish you could somehow repay but you know is impossible?

A gift of such value that there just aren’t words to express your gratitude? Continue reading →

A Week of Thanks {The Basics}

by

fall-leaves3

I’ve been sharing this week that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and reminding us all of the fact that we have so much to be thankful for.

We’ve looked at the gifts of Salvation & Eternal Life and how much we have been given in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Yesterday, I shared my appreciation for family, friends, church family, and my online community of readers and bloggers.

While I do love living life with a daily attitude of appreciation for these incredible blessings in my life, I never want to take for granted some of the blessings we consider to be smaller and simpler. Yet to those who lack them they are everything. Continue reading →

This week, in honor of my favorite holiday, I am sharing the things I am most thankful for. (If you missed yesterday’s intro post, you can click here to read that.)

A Week of Thanks {Salvation & Eternal Life}

fall-leaves

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I know what you’re thinking, but it is not because of the food. Really – it’s not.

That’s the second reason. Oh, how I love a Thanksgiving dinner! But I digress…

Thanksgiving is my favorite because it is more than a holiday for me. It is a way of life. It’s a way of choosing how I see things. In that way, every day is Thanksgiving.

This week, in honor of my favorite holiday, I’d like to share some of the things I am most thankful for. Continue reading →

31 Things I Thank God For

by

October_leaves

You (or may not) have noticed a 31 Day theme around the blogosphere the past few days. October is the month of 31 Days of Writing for many bloggers. They choose a theme and write on it for 31 straight days.

If you know me at all, you know that I love counting my blessings. It’s a full time job, I tell ya.

Even though I am not participating in this event on my blog, these 31 Day Challenges have inspired me to write 31 things I am thankful for.

My hope is to challenge you to look for the blessings in your own life. Continue reading →

Living On Purpose

Philippians 1:12-26

“…according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” ~Philippians 1:19-21 (NKJV)

One of my duties in Viet Nam was to be part of a sniffer team. As a component of this duty, I had to fly in a helicopter. A sniffer was a machine designed to pick up the scent of the enemy below, traveling at a moderate rate of speed and at tree-top level. As part of my routine before the mission, I prayed. You might think, yeah, I would too! But the substance of my prayer was not to save me from death, but that in the “heat of battle”, I would not dishonor my Lord. Continue reading →

Contentment

by

contentment

I wonder how many of us are truly content with the lives we have.

How much time do we spend grumbling, complaining, and wishing our lives were different?

Do we lie awake at night with worry, or rely on a substance to get us through the day?

Do we let our circumstances determine our attitude?

For most of us, times are tough. Whether we are dealing issues surrounding health, finances, or relationships, life isn’t always easy. Continue reading →

I’ve Been Singing The Wrong Lyrics

by

heart puzzleHave you ever had someone tell you that you were singing the song wrong?

I wanted to write about one of my favorite EVER lines in a song. I looked up the lyrics and the site had it incorrect, so I checked another site.

Would you believe that one was in error as well? I went straight to the source and discovered that I, in fact, had been singing the wrong lyrics for years.

It takes courage to say what I am about to say. I like mine just as much. Continue reading →

Our God Reigns

Psalm 97

As I am sure you have experienced from time to time, life can be quite unpredictable. Actually, I am glad that it is. Why? Because, given our penchant for worrying over the least little things, we would be a basket case by the time the predicted event came to pass. It is enough to know that things will happen that I am not prepared for. Many come to me in the form of testing.

So, how do we cope? I am convinced that the psalmist had the right idea. Believers have only to look to God for the answers to life’s challenges. Hope in the life of the believer is not some warm and fuzzy feeling, but a reality from God. Continue reading →
