The Gift

by

fancy-heart
Have you ever been given a gift that has profoundly changed your life?

A gift so generous, appreciated, and unexpected that nothing will ever be the same as a result?

A gift that makes you wonder what you could have possibly done to deserve it?

A gift that you wish you could somehow repay but you know is impossible?

A gift of such value that there just aren’t words to express your gratitude? Continue reading →

The Gift of Time

by

red-box-bow

When he takes the time to read your book because he’s your Pastor and he wants to encourage you in your ministry.

When he spends hours working on your blog even though he is trying to keep his business afloat because he’s your husband and he believes in your message and because he loves you.

When he flies across several states to visit you and your family even though it’s expensive and he has to take time off of work because he is your daddy and he loves you.

When he asks if you have time to play your favorite games with him because he is your teenage son and he still loves spending time with you because you’re his mom. Continue reading →

A New Lifestyle {The Walking Series – Part 2}

by

red-shoes2I recently posted an introduction to this The Walking Series. If you missed my post, How Then Should We Walk?, you can click here to read it. Go ahead, we’ll wait for ya.

Welcome back! Today, we are going to continue with Ephesians Chapter 4. (Click here to read it in its entirety.)

We left off last time with verses 1-3 where we looked at walking worthy of our calling “with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

We were encouraged with the reminder that God is the one who does the work in us. We simply need to be a willing vessel for the power of the Holy Spirit to work in and through us. (Phil. 1:6) Continue reading →

Romans 8:1-5 (Click the red text to read the verses)

This morning’s reading took me into the Book of Romans. It’s a place where I spend a lot of time soaking up the Word of God and reminding myself of what it is that God has done for me through His Son.

While this is a passage that we sometimes go whizzing by, I think it appropriate that we pause this morning to read it through three or four times to get the real flavor of what Paul is saying. Continue reading →

Heaven, Hell, and Life After Death (A Giveaway!)

by

life-after-death

Do you have a clear picture of life after death?

Do you know where you are going to spend eternity?

This subject is a very hot topic among believers, non-believers, and everyone in between.

I believe this is an important question for all of us to reconcile in our minds and in our hearts. What we believe about our eternal lives directly affects our earthly lives. Continue reading →

Dancing on the Head of a Pen

by

dancing-pen

I had the privilege this week of reading Robert Benson’s short, yet beautifully penned book Dancing on the Head of a Pen: The Practice of a Writing Life.

In a quest to answer the often asked question “Can you tell me how to write a book?”, he has written an almost poetic manual for the writer who attempts to do just that. In a style that is a joy to read, yet easy to understand, Mr. Benson takes the reader on a personal, yet helpful, journey in his art of putting pen to paper. Continue reading →

The Life Jacket

by

lifejacket

Several years ago when we were camping at our favorite campground, we hiked up to our cherished spot in the rocks overlooking the beautiful Lake Ellen. There is a great rock that we like to jump off and into the water. The first time I do it each summer, I admit it is a bit intimidating. After the first time, however, it does get easier as you learn to trust the safety of the water below.

My husband went first and then called to our sons so that they could jump off of the rock, into the water, and into his arms. We were trying to encourage our younger son to jump in without his life jacket. He could swim. His daddy was right there to catch him in his big, strong arms, but that little boy knew that the water below was deep. We tried to convince him that he didn’t need his life jacket, but he clung to the safety and assurance that it brought to him. It made me think about the things that we cling to rather than jumping confidently into the arms of our Heavenly Father. Continue reading →

Let Your Light Shine

by

Bible-and-cup

“that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world” ~Philippians 2:15 (NKJV)

The Book of Exodus gives us one example of a shinning face:  Moses had gone up to Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments from God. Scripture tells us that, when he came down from the mountain, “he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with God.”  Continue reading →

How To Have A Mary Heart In A Martha World

by

mary-heart-martha-world

It’s such a short story, and yet it convicts me every time.

The Bible astounds me. Not only does God love us enough write a love letter to us, but His Word is living and powerful. (Hebrews 4:12). I can read the same passages over and over again and learn something new each time.

In a Bible containing 66 books, more than 1,100 chapters, and over 32,000 verses, these 5 somehow seem to jump off the page and smack me over the head each time I read them. It doesn’t seem to matter how much I know this story, intellectually, it can take great effort and discipline to live it at times.

In Luke 10:38-42, we find the story of Mary and Martha. I’m sure you’re familiar with it. Continue reading →

My Life Song – Live Like That

by

live-like-thatSometimes I am so laser focused on the to-do lists that I let the daily tasks of life dominate my thoughts and actions.

And then I listen to the song Live Like That by Sidewalk Prophets. The lyrics to that song inspire and encourage me in a way that causes me to zoom out and take a bird’s eye look at my life. From that view, I remember that I am a small part of something much greater.

Let’s consider the lyrics: Continue reading →

How Everything Can Change In A Moment

by

two-holding-hands

One incident. One accident. One illness. One episode. One phone call.

We’ve all experienced a time in life when one moment has changed everything. Though we may get through the original event, we never really see things the same way again.

It has a way of changing us; a way of reminding us that life is short and time is precious. We remember that we forget to tell them they are loved, that they are precious, and that life is beautiful because of them.

I must have needed that reminder.

Just in case you do, too, hold your spouse a little longer the next time you are hugging. Make that phone call to say, “I’m sorry.” Send that card or gift that says, “You’ve blessed my life.” Hold your child’s face, look them in the eye, and tell them all that they mean to you.

‘Cause everything can change in a moment.  Continue reading →

Love

by

heart

Should you ever doubt your value or your worth, consider that Love Himself died for YOU.

Perfect died for the imperfect

Love gave His life for the greedy

Whole died for the broken

Truth died for liars

Friend died for His enemies

Selfless died for the selfish

Love gave His life for the haters

Sinless died for the sinner

The world may tell you that you are unworthy, but Jesus Christ said something very different when He hung on that cross and died so that, in Him, you could live.
