Fence Riders

by

fence

“Am I foolishness to you?

And is it laughable the things I do?

Can I sing about my Maker
And have you not roll your eyes?
Can I weep about my Savior
And the way he died?

I know it don’t make sense
To those who ride the fence
But I’m sold out to Christ”

The lyrics above are part of a song called Fence Riders by Jimmy Needham. We are huge Christian music fans in our family.  We love the idea of feeding our faith through music. We enjoy cranking up the music on Saturday when we are doing chores around the house. I often use upbeat music to give me a boost of energy when I really don’t feel like making dinner. Sometimes I’m just having trouble dealing with the things of life and nothing lifts my spirit like singing praises to my Lord and Savior. Listening to Christian music is just one of the ways we work on building our faith. We are so blessed as there are some very talented artists in the Christian music scene. Jimmy Needham is one of them!

As a writer, the lyrics are the most important part of a song for me. When I am singing along with my favorite artists, I am using their lyrics to praise, to pray, to gather strength from the truths within them, and to draw closer to my God. I like to contemplate what is being sung about, which often prompts me to want to write.

Wrestling with God

by

wrestling-with-god

The 32nd chapter of Genesis, among other things, tells the story of Jacob wrestling with God. That story has always intrigued me. As with many Old Testament stories, I often ponder not only their significance in Scripture, but what application they may have in my own life.If you’ve read the story, you know that after their little wrestling match, God changed Jacob’s name to Israel.

We cannot meet God and remain unchanged.

Love

by

heart

Should you ever doubt your value or your worth, consider that Love Himself died for YOU.

Perfect died for the imperfect

Love gave His life for the greedy

Whole died for the broken

Truth died for liars

Friend died for His enemies

Selfless died for the selfish

Love gave His life for the haters

Sinless died for the sinner

The world may tell you that you are unworthy, but Jesus Christ said something very different when He hung on that cross and died so that, in Him, you could live.

Is This a Test?

by

Pen & Paper

In the last few weeks, there have been several financial needs that have all seemed to occur one right after the other. You know the expression, “When it rains, it pours.”

I can hear my Pastor’s voice in my head. He says that when he finds himself in this type of situation, he asks God,Is this a test?”

My best girlfriend tells me that when people ask her what I am like, her reply is, “She’s just like me, except that she’s an overachiever.” I was surprised when she told me this because I don’t see myself as an overachiever at all. Over the years I have seen how I can have those tendencies at times, but when it comes to the thought that God may be testing me, I can tell you I want to obtain major overachiever status on that one! There are three reasons I feel this way. Continue reading →

Abiding in Christ’s Love

by

Bible-and-cupJohn 15:9-17

It occurred to me this morning that this word “love” too often, I think, rolls off our tongues in order to help us describe a multitude of things, circumstances, and relationships. I wonder if the word has not lost its true definition, and, in so doing, lost its impact. Continue reading →

The Key To Happiness

by

“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn, or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.” ~Denis Waitley

My Grandmother has gone to be with Jesus, but her memory is cherished by those she has left behind. The lessons that she taught us continue to live on.

One of the most important things she said, in my opinion, is the statement, “happiness is not having what you want, it’s wanting what you have.” (Rabbi Hyman Schachtel.)

So many people are discontent these days. We’re constantly striving for more, hungering for the latest and greatest, and trying, at all costs, to keep up with the Jones’. We covet what others have, we’re jealous when others find success, and we tend to believe that the grass is greener on the other side.

But…
