It was one of those interrupted moments in life where God’s plans intercepted with ours.

We had spent the day in the big city in a neighboring town with more amenities than we are accustomed to. The grandparents were visiting, so we went to catch a movie, enjoy a meal, and do a little shopping.

The last stop on the list was our coveted treat at Dairy Queen before our more than an hour drive back home.

It was then that she crossed the street and stopped my husband from completing his turn to ask where the nearest park was so that she could pitch her tent to sleep for the night.

She wasn’t an old, homeless woman but a young traveler. Continue reading →

Growing In The Faith

by

“Grow, dear friends, but grow, I beseech you, in God’s way, which is the only true way.”

-Hannah Smith

In Peter’s first epistle, he opens his letter by encouraging us in the living hope that we have in Jesus Christ and the incorruptible inheritance that is reserved in heaven for us.

He reminds us that we are called to live holy lives as a result of the redemption that was purchased for us by the precious blood of Jesus Christ on the cross.

He reminds us that we have been born again of incorruptible seed through the word of God which lives and abides forever. Continue reading →

Walking In Love, Light, & Wisdom {The Walking Series – Part 3}

by

red-shoes3

Welcome to the 3rd installment of The Walking Series. If you’re just joining us, you can read Part 1 here and Part 2 here.

So far, we have discussed the idea that we need to walk worthy of our calling. If we are to be salt and light in this world, we need to know what that looks like in a practical sense.

We have looked at the truths of what God has done for us through Jesus Christ with respect to our position with God and how we can impact the world for Christ as a result. (Ephesians Chapters 1-3)

We have considered putting off the old man, putting on the new man, renewing our minds, and my Pastor’s thoughts that “a new life demands a new lifestyle”.

We have examined Biblical behaviors such as kindness, tenderheartedness, and forgiveness for the growth and edification of the body of Christ. (Ephesians Chapter 4)

Today, we continue walking through the book of Ephesians in Chapter 5 which begins with a reminder that we should be imitators of Christ by walking in love in the same way that He has “loved us and given Himself for us”. Continue reading →

One Word

by

One-Word

So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.               -Psalm 90:12

Have you heard of One Word 365?

If you’re not immersed in the blogging world, you may not have.

Not to worry, though, non-bloggers are included, too.

The idea is that instead of compiling the same list of New Year’s Resolutions year after year that most of us have broken or forgotten about before the calendar flips to February, we choose a word of the year as our focus. Continue reading →

A Week of Thanks {The Basics}

by

fall-leaves3

I’ve been sharing this week that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and reminding us all of the fact that we have so much to be thankful for.

We’ve looked at the gifts of Salvation & Eternal Life and how much we have been given in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Yesterday, I shared my appreciation for family, friends, church family, and my online community of readers and bloggers.

While I do love living life with a daily attitude of appreciation for these incredible blessings in my life, I never want to take for granted some of the blessings we consider to be smaller and simpler. Yet to those who lack them they are everything. Continue reading →

A Week of Thanks {Salvation & Eternal Life}

by

fall-leaves

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I know what you’re thinking, but it is not because of the food. Really – it’s not.

That’s the second reason. Oh, how I love a Thanksgiving dinner! But I digress…

Thanksgiving is my favorite because it is more than a holiday for me. It is a way of life. It’s a way of choosing how I see things. In that way, every day is Thanksgiving.

This week, in honor of my favorite holiday, I’d like to share some of the things I am most thankful for. Continue reading →

Attitude of Gratitude: Thankful for Singleness {Guest Post}

by

Thankful-for-singleness

Today I am pleased to share a Guest Post with you from Erin at It All Matters Mom.

I had a plan.

It was a good one, too. I’d seen it work out so many other times, so I decided I was all in.

I was going to go to college, fall in love and then get married. Continue reading →

Romans 8:1-5 (Click the red text to read the verses)

This morning’s reading took me into the Book of Romans. It’s a place where I spend a lot of time soaking up the Word of God and reminding myself of what it is that God has done for me through His Son.

While this is a passage that we sometimes go whizzing by, I think it appropriate that we pause this morning to read it through three or four times to get the real flavor of what Paul is saying. Continue reading →

You Are The Reason

Breakfast-With-Jesus

The week before last, I wrote several posts about the idea that while preparing to teach Vacation Bible School to young children, I was reminded that God intends for the adults to be gleaning truths from His word as we are sharing them. Just because we are teaching doesn’t mean we aren’t learning.

Well, I’m back at it again this week.

Last Friday night, our church hosted a Youth Night complete with a spaghetti dinner and board games for all who wished to come fellowship. I gave a short devotion because I never want to miss an opportunity to share the gospel.

Like the previous week, I was reminded that I am never too old, never too familiar, never too well read that His truths do not continue to wash over me and bring me great comfort.

Let me share what I mean. Continue reading →

Blessings

by

A dear friend, missionary, and fellow blogger shared recently a post she, too, called BLESSINGS. (You can click on the highlighted text to visit her site.)

Bonnie wrote about how much the word “bless” is used and she began to “ponder what does BLESS really mean to me.” She not only shared a few of her thoughts, but encouraged her readers to do the same.
