WHAT iF…

by

what-if-book

What if?

What if we lose our business and our home? What if someone gets hurt or sick and we can’t afford the medical bills? What if we can’t buy groceries or repair our truck?

What if something happens to one of my children or my spouse? What if something happens to my parents or to me?

What if?

If you’re like me, you’ve spent a lot of time thinking, planning, analyzing, and being concerned for a situation that could happen.

If you’re like me, you’ve spent too much time worrying about things that never have, and may never, come to pass.

Yep, I tend to be a worrier. Continue reading →

10 Reasons We Need Not Fear The Valley

by

10-reasons-valleyI recently shared my thoughts about the mountaintop and valley experiences we all go through in life. If you missed that, you can read The Mountaintop Experience: Part 1 and Part 2.

Today, I’d like to share a bit of encouragement with you if you find yourself currently in a valley. I’d love to give you 10 reasons from Scripture that we don’t need to fear our valley experiences.

Humanly speaking, it is difficult to do anything but fear during our trials, but with God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)

Let’s consider His word: Continue reading →

The Life Jacket

by

lifejacket

Several years ago when we were camping at our favorite campground, we hiked up to our cherished spot in the rocks overlooking the beautiful Lake Ellen. There is a great rock that we like to jump off and into the water. The first time I do it each summer, I admit it is a bit intimidating. After the first time, however, it does get easier as you learn to trust the safety of the water below.

My husband went first and then called to our sons so that they could jump off of the rock, into the water, and into his arms. We were trying to encourage our younger son to jump in without his life jacket. He could swim. His daddy was right there to catch him in his big, strong arms, but that little boy knew that the water below was deep. We tried to convince him that he didn’t need his life jacket, but he clung to the safety and assurance that it brought to him. It made me think about the things that we cling to rather than jumping confidently into the arms of our Heavenly Father. Continue reading →

The Power Of Encouragement

by

Never underestimate the power of encouraging one another!

Yesterday, I shared about my experience of using Scripture to overcome a fearful situation. You can read that post by clicking here.

To recap, I was sharing about my fear and trepidation of climbing up a ladder and onto my roof so that my husband could shoot a photo for the cover of my ebook.

I shared a lesson that I learned about really believing God’s Word.

Today, I’d like to share the second lesson I learned. Back to the story… Continue reading →

Do We Really Believe It?

by

ladderI know we all believe the things we read in God’s word, but do we really?

I was challenged in this area just last week. My husband was helping me shoot a picture for the cover of my ebook. If you missed that post, you can read it and see the picture by clicking here.

He, being on the roof many times, thought it would be really cool if we got a shot of me (having never been on the roof) up there with my arms lifted to the sky.

I thought it was a great idea! That is, until I got about halfway up the ladder. I told him I didn’t think I could do it, but he encouraged me to just keep climbing. I did, but instead of climbing up, I climbed back down, stepped onto solid ground, and told him that I just couldn’t do it. Continue reading →

When Our Thoughts and His Words Collide

by

lamp-Bible

It recently occurred to me that there is a disconnect between the things I think and worry about and what Jesus has said in His Word. I worry about the dwindling savings, about retirement, about the future of my boys, and a host of other concerns. These are all things the world tells me I need to be concerned about. But what did Jesus say? Continue reading →

How To Find Peace When The Fires Rage

by

Bible-Peace

As the worst fires in our state’s history rage a little too close to home, one cannot help but wonder about the what if’s.

While I am choosing faith over fear, I cannot help but think practically about what we would do should evacuation, or God forbid, the loss of land, home, or property become a reality for us.

Only A Mountain

by

If you’ve been reading my blog, you know how I feel about Christian music. Click here to read my Musings On Music.

This is a song I reach for when I am feeling particularly overwhelmed about any situation that feels too big for me in that moment. While listening to a song certainly doesn’t solve all of my problems, move mountains, or make all of the stress and fear go away, it does change my perspective. Continue reading →

Cast My Cares

by

Boy Fishing

“…casting all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.” ~1 Peter 5:7

I love this verse and the song, “Cast My Cares” by Tim Timmons. Let’s look at a few of his lyrics and then, together, we will dig into the implications these truths have in our lives.

In the middle of the night when worry finds me
In the middle of the fight when strength is gone
In the middle of a fire when fear is closing in
You are, You are my song
You’re my hope when hope is gone
I will cast my cares on You for You’re mighty
I will cast my cares on You cause You’re good
I will cast my cares on You cause You love me
God of glory, You are able, through your power, to be faithful
God of mercy, every moment, You are near to me
