The Key To Happiness

by

“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn, or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.” ~Denis Waitley

My Grandmother has gone to be with Jesus, but her memory is cherished by those she has left behind. The lessons that she taught us continue to live on.

One of the most important things she said, in my opinion, is the statement, “happiness is not having what you want, it’s wanting what you have.” (Rabbi Hyman Schachtel.)

So many people are discontent these days. We’re constantly striving for more, hungering for the latest and greatest, and trying, at all costs, to keep up with the Jones’. We covet what others have, we’re jealous when others find success, and we tend to believe that the grass is greener on the other side.

But…

Be Still

by

bench

One of my very favorite songs is Be Still by Kari Jobe. Here are some of the lyrics:

He is peace to the wounded and hope for the helpless one

He is here

Be still my soul, be still

Wait patiently upon the Lord

When the waves rise against me and the wind tries to draw me away

I will stand on the mountain, safe in Your arms, I will sing

Be still

I know He is God

I never get into trouble like I do when I try to get ahead of God. I worry before I take the time to pray. I give birth to every possible, horrible outcome before I have given the situation over to God. I worry, fear, fret, and stress so easily!

When the winds start to blow and the rain starts to fall, I listen to this song. It not only calms me, but helps me remember that, as they say, I am forgetting to tell my storm just how big my God is.

Kari’s lyrics remind me that I need to be still. I need to stop being about the business of panicking and get about the business of praying. I need forget about worrying and focus on waiting.

I need to remember that the God of the universe is with me. I can stand on the mountain knowing that His arms will hold me strong and keep me safe. There is nothing else in the world that helps calm my soul like the reminder of these truths: Continue reading →

Thoughts On Stewardship

by

Growing Plant

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that most American families have been impacted by the recent economic downturn. Some of us have felt the impact more than others, but I would imagine that no matter where you find yourself on the spectrum, you could always use a tip or two to help you save a buck or two.

Since moving from city life to the country life 8 years ago, I have learned to be much more self-sufficient around the home simply because I don’t have the city conveniences around me. While this has taught me many valuable skills, it has also shown me how much money can be saved when we put forth a little (or a lot!) more effort. Continue reading →

Coconut Pineapple Banana Bread w/ Lime Glaze

by

Coconut Banana MuffinThese muffins are yummy, healthy, relatively quick, and only require 1 bowl. I’m all about feeding my family good food without living in my kitchen – and less dishes means more free time!

If You Go To Do The Laundry

by

Colorful Clothespins Blue Sky

I went to fold clean clothes on my bed when I realized I hadn’t made my bed.

I put the clothes back in the dryer and went to make the bed.

On the way to make the bed, I saw tortillas on the counter. This made me remember there’s a family at church I need to cook for, so I started making enchiladas.

While I was making enchiladas, I got an email. I went to check it out and realized I needed to add something to the bulletin for church the next day, so I sat and worked on the bulletin.

While I was at my computer, I saw my checkbook and decided to work on balancing my accounts.

While I was balancing the accounts, my kids told me they were hungry. This reminded me of the enchiladas I was making. Continue reading →

…Well, you get the idea. And round and round it went, and it never seemed to stop.

Until I was; Tired, Burnt Out, Done.

This is where I was last Sunday morning as I sat in church. We had worship and a time of prayer after, and this is when God reminded me of what was missing. Continue reading →

Prayer

by

“Prayer is not something we do for the work of God – prayer IS the work of God.”       ~Charles Price

prayer
Every Sunday my Pastor asks, “How may I pray for you today?” I find such comfort in those words, and so I ask you, “How may I pray for you today?”

If you need prayer, please fill out the form below. You can be very vague with little or no detail, or you can write me a heartfelt letter. I promise that only my eyes will see it. If your prayer request is not private, and you would like my readers to pray with me, please state that in your request.

I’m not sure how this will work, exactly. I just know that the Lord has put it on my heart to ask.

Please know that you will be prayed for faithfully and confidentially (if that is your preference).

There is something very beautiful knowing that the body of Christ is praying with and for one another.

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” ~James 5:16 (NIV)
