A Letter To My Daddy On His Birthday

February 15, 2015 by

Dear Daddy,

This birthday marks a milestone for you.

I’m sure you’re looking back over the years and taking stock of the life you’ve lived.

I imagine you thinking forward to what lies ahead of you.

But I hope you’ll take a moment to look at where you are. Right now.

To think about who you have allowed God to help you become. Because I really, really love that man, and I thank God each and every day for the work He’s done in your life.

By Him and by me.

You’ve been an inspiration to me. I’ve seen you low, but I’ve watched you overcome.

I’ve seen you high but watched you remain humble.

I know He’s still working in you, but I praise Him for the gift that He has given us in you.

So on your special day, know that I have no gift to offer you.

But you don’t need a gift because you are a gift.

The question is often asked, what do you give the person who has everything?

Today, the question for me is, what do I give the person who has given me everything?rick-n-heather

My adoration. My appreciation. My love.

You will always have them.

Thank you, Daddy.

For who you were. For who you’re becoming. And for you are today. At this moment. I couldn’t love you anymore than I do now.

Happy Birthday!

I just opened the best birthday gift I could ever receive! You know how you always try to find the bday card that says just the right words when it’s someone very special and they usually fall somewhat flat? You then settle on one figuring this will do, and at least it does end with happy birthday. Yours ended with happy birthday but everything before that made your daddy tear up. To be appreciated, adored and loved by my very precious daughter is more than any dad could ever hope for on this earthly plane. And to think that we, despite that earthlyness, found a way to get it right, more times than not by following our Saviors example with His Father as we submit to His Holy Spirits leading. This has been an amazing journey with you my daughter and so look forward to our remaining time here and our eternity together forever. I praise God for this overflowing cup that has my daughter Heather’s name written all over it! I love you and thank you for my birthday present!

I am in tears thanking the LORD for HIS restoration in our lives! HE restores and lifts up without fail. LORD, continue to bless your children and help us as we follow YOU to our ETERNAL reward. Thank you, JESUS!

I’m sitting here at 3:40 am, smiling through tears at your post.

Yes, it was sweet–but I feel the intent behind it. I can relate.
My dad is my hero. My best friend.
When mom died, I was the first person he called.

    Thanks for sharing, Heather.

It meant a lot to me this morning.

I’m so glad you get it, Jaime. As a writer, I am sure you can relate the the feeling that sometimes our words seem so flat as they can really only convey a small portion of the depth of our feelings. I’m glad you were blessed, my friend.

This was so sweet and precious. I’m so thankful you have such a wonderful bond with your dad. I do have to say that I think my dad is the best, but I think you’ll let that slide. 🙂 What a blessing that so many would love to have.

How about we just agree that my Dad is the best for me and yours is the best for you? 🙂 We are so blessed, aren’t we? I pray for those who don’t have what we do and my hope is that they will find what they are missing in Jesus Christ. Blessings to you, my friend.

How lovely. As a parent it is the sweetest thing to hear that your children adore you. Your dad is a special man and he raised a great daughter!
